The new agreement is seen as the first step to a four super conference alignment that could mean the end of the ACC and the Big East.  We’ll talk about what it means tonight on the show.

Kentucky baseball is back in action tonight in Starkville, Mississippi.  The Cats now trail South Carolina by percentages and lead LSU by a half game and Florida by one game.  The Cats can win the SEC or finish fourth…a big difference.

The second leg of the horse racing triple crown is set for tomorrow afternoon in Baltimore.  We’ll conduct our annual Preakness contest throughout tonight’s show.

Jeff Drummond has the recruiting covered including an update on Montrezl Harrell.  Harrell say’s that the Cats have indeed contacted him and that he’s interested.

Kentucky Basketball is getting some positive pub today.  SI’s Andy Glockner say’s that Julius Mays and Ryan Harrow are two of the 10 biggest impact transfers for next season.

Slam Magazine has three future Wildcats on their annual High School All-American Team.  Nerlens Noel, Alex Poythress and Archie Goodwin were selected to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams respectively.

Kerry Wood retired today ending a mixed emotions career.  It began with a burst that was derailed by injuries.  Kerry tossed, in his estimation, the greatest game in baseball history with a 20K, 0 walk, 1-hit gem against Astros in 1998.  It’s hard to argue with his assessment…he is an infield single away from a 20K perfect game.

Kyle Tucker, take 2.  We missed Kyle yesterday but we’ve got good news…we’ve rescheduled with the Courier Journal’s UK beat writer and he’ll appear tonight in hour 1 to talk some UK football.

Jeff Drummond of the Cats Pause has a recruiting update including the latest on Montrezzl Harrell, who was finally released from his commitment from Virginia Tech.

Plus, we’re going to talk some Kentucky basketball with Glenn Logan from Sea of Blue.  The Kentucky Wildcats have the overall number one player coming into college hoops next season and perhaps the one with the most impact of the 1st year players, so say’s Myron Medcalf.   However, does Kentucky have enough coming in next season to compete for a national title?  We’ll debate these topics and more with Glenn.

Notes:

ESPN say’s that it’s UCLA, not Kentucky, that has the best recruiting class in America.  If so, that would end the Cats run of three straight top classes.  ESPN’s Dave Telep chatted today about the debate of who is number one and would the Wildcats move to the top if they get Harrell (yes).

Last summer, when they took a service trip to Ethiopia with head coach Joker Phillips, Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and others, Danny Trevathan and Stuart Hines weren’t entirely sure what was in store for them. The experience ended up being a life-changing one, with the two rising seniors witnessing a culture and a lifestyle unimaginably far removed from their own.

On Friday, a new group of rising seniors will follow in the footsteps of Hines and Trevathan and make the same trip with Phillips at their side. For a year now, Mikie Benton, Matt Smith and Larry Warford have listened to stories and seen photographs from the weeklong trip and, even though the trio has an idea what lies ahead, that doesn’t mean they expect it to have any less of an impact on them.

Larry Vaught is hitting the football beat with his Vaught’s Views column today.  Larry talks to Mike Cassity about the coaching staff.   Cassity tells Vaught that the coaching staff is committed to improving even if it means telling the boss, Joker Phillips, what he does’t want to hear.

Yesterday we talked a little about the financial aspects of college athletics.  The story was based on the information provided by USA Today’s Database.  Well Eric Crawford delves into the matter a little deeper in his column today  to show how the numbers are crunched and how they can tell different stories based on what’s included in the numbers.

Kentucky baseball lost another mid week game last night in Paducah against Murray State.  UK is focused on an SEC title that they can clinch this weekend against Mississippi State.  Our friend Matt May of the Cats Pause profiles the Cats title chase this weekend in Starkville.

A tough break for Joe Crawford.  The former Wildcat injured his knee and could be out for as much as six months.  you can read more about it here.

Gregg Doyel thanked Coach K in his column today for restoring America to basketball dominance.  The Duke coach say’s that 2012 will be his last as the coach for Team USA.  So who replaces him?

Doyel tweeted, “USA players WANT to play for Coach K. Top coach I see who fits that bill for 2016? John Calipari.”

John Clay

John Calipari’s scheduling manifesto is getting a lot of attention and the reactions are mixed.  John Clay of the Lexington Herald Leader isn;t buying Cal’s philosophy.  He say’s that its simply a matter of Cal not wanting to go to Bllomington.  He is Clay right, we’ll debate the issue with John tonight on the show.

WHAS’s Kent Spencer covers both IU and UK and he’ll weigh in and give us his opinion on why the UK/IU series ended.

Now that Anthony Bennett is off the board, where will John Calipari turn?  Amile Jefferson is still out there and there are a couple of possible transfers who could help the Cats fill out the roster.  We’ll chat with Jeff Drummond and get the latest on the UK recruiting scene.
