Sunday Morning Quarterback

September 2nd, 2012

This is the first weekend of the college football season.  The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Louisville to play the Cardinals in front of a national TV audience (ESPN).  We will talk about it after the game on 590, WVLK.  Call us at 253-5959 or 877-777-0590.  You can also make a prediction on our facebook page.

While the Governors Cup is the main course for us in the Bluegrass, most of the nation were focused on yesterday.  Hard to argue with anybody saying Alabama is the best team in college football.  Their dismantling of Michigan, who was probably overrated, was disturbing to college football fans all over the country.  Yes, USC looked good but they were certainly not on Bama’s level, and I’m a Trojan fan.

Having won six national titles in a row, number seven looks very, very possible after last night.  Fans outside of the SEC were hoping there would be a slip this year and now today they have to be wondering if anybody can beat these guys.

Can other programs like USC, Oklahoma and anybody from the Big Ten really believe they can beat the SEC when it counts?  It would be hard to imagine.

The only hope is that SEC beats each other up and doesn’t get into the BCS title game.  Sadly for the rest of college football, when they go to a playoff it will only be worse because then teams outside the SEC will have to actually beat the SEC themselves.

This year, Only USC can match the talent that Bama has but they lack depth.  The Trojans have the swagger and they are the only big boy that hasn’t lost to an SEC team in the title game.  So confidence might not be an issue with them but a lack of a run stuffing defense and power running game might.  There’s a long way to go but after one week, its once again the SEC and maybe USC.
